The Board is thrilled to announce the kickoff of the first phase of JLCV’s new community project, creating Vermont’s first diaper bank. With our new focus area of the challenge of affordability in our community, our Project Research and Development Committee worked with the Board to research opportunities to make an impact on our community. The findings around #diaperneed in our area were shocking.

With no government safety net allocating dollars toward diapers, families in need turn to non-profits -- and find a tremendous shortage. Chittenden County Emergency Food Shelf reported to us that between 8-10 people per day request diapers; but without a regular source of donations, the Food Shelf must turn people away.

Our first phase will be a diaper drive, which is already under way and aims to collect 15,000 diapers by the middle of March.

After that, we will identify funding partners and establish a regular stream of diaper donations to address #diaperneed in our community. With guidance from the National Diaper Bank Network (NDBN), we will join eleven Junior Leagues in other states with diaper banks. We plan to become an official NDBN member by 2019.

This project will not be successful without help from all of you! Here are a few things you can do to get involved.

1. Educate yourself about #diaperneed by reading through the materials on our website. Below find a two sided infographic (seen below) to start the conversation. Many of us were not aware of the problem until we started the research for this project, but the statistics are compelling.

2. Share the Amazon Wishlist (http://a.co/5uo9ndXand infographics on social media channels. Encourage your network to buy diapers and get involved. Not sure what to say? See infographics & blurb below!

3. Organize a mini diaper drive in your community (school, office, church, etc.) using our diaper drive toolkit. If you need help figuring out how to approach someone, check out our solicitation letter, which has been designed to be distributed with our infographic postcard.

4. Make a monetary donation online to support the drive.

5. Pick up postcards or a poster. Email us to coordinate picking up the materials.

If you have any questions along the way please don't hesitate to get in touch with us.

Thank you in advance for your support and enthusiasm! We have been hard at work and are excited to launch this project!!
